Set Daily Alarms

This is another shortcut to run when your wake up alarm goes off as shown above. This one goes to your phone's calendar and creates alarms for when to leave for those events using how far it takes to get there according to Google Maps.

Since I primarily use Google Calendar, which doesn't know how to talk to Siri yet, I have to make sure to add my calendar entries manually using this shortcut so that I can use them in cool ways like this. So I have it set up to open Google Calendar once it's done setting the alarms so I can make sure I didn't forget to add anything.

How to use

Use the instructions for the shortcut above to make this shortcut run when your wake up alarm goes off.

Or just run it any time you want!

How it works

  1. The shortcut works by retrieving all the calendar entries for that day on the user's phone.
  2. For each one it determines the location, and uses that to find out how many minutes away it is.
  3. Depending on how far away it is, it figures out how much buffer time to add between leaving and arriving. If the destination is less than 3 minutes away from where I am now (home), it treats it as a work-from-home meeting and doesn't include travel time.
  4. Then it subtracts those two numbers from the start time of the event to figure out when the user should leave.
  5. Then it adds on a 10 minute warning. You can adjust this value when you download the shortcut.
  6. Then it creates the alarms; if it's an event with driving time, it creates one for getting ready and one for leaving. If it's at home, then it creates a warning alarm and a "starting now" alarm.
  7. Then it opens up the Google Calendar app.
